Rail delight at Rabet station: Leipzig's new recreational pool for swimming enthusiasts starts operations on Monday
Leipzig, Germany, is set to welcome a new addition to its sports pool facilities. The new sports pool at Rabet, located on Eisenbahnstraße, will open its doors on Monday, August 11 [1]. This state-of-the-art pool boasts sustainable, modular timber construction and architectural heat protection, making it an eco-friendly addition to the city's landscape.
The new sports pool will feature a competition-standard 25-meter pool with six lanes, a training pool, and a paddling pool. The pool covers approximately 600 square meters of water surface, providing ample space for swimmers of all ages and abilities [1].
The building of the Sportbad am Rabet is planned according to the passive house standard, which includes solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, LED lighting, heat recovery systems, district heating connection, and a sludge water treatment system [1]. These features contribute to the pool's energy efficiency and overall sustainability.
The surrounding landscape complements the eco-friendly design with a winding watercourse, which may also contribute to natural cooling and water management around the facility [2].
Public bathing in the Sportbad am Rabet will be available on Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 am, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 9 pm, and Friday from 5 to 9 pm. Entrance fees for full price start from 5 Euro, reduced price from 4.40 Euro, and early and late bathing fees from 3.80 Euro. A family card for the Sportbad am Rabet costs 19 Euro [1].
The city and sports pools have invested around 20 million euros in the new swimming pool. The facility will also offer 100 spectator seats for competitions and barrier-free facilities [1].
It's worth noting that clubs and sports groups at the Sportbad am Rabet use 33% of the usage time, while school swimming takes up 21%. The remaining usage times are used for internal work and other purposes [1].
