Rail attack in Lozovo, Russia results in 2 deaths, 9 injuries
In the early hours of August 5, 2025, the city of Lozova in Ukraine's Kharkiv region was subjected to a significant drone and missile attack by Russian forces. The assault, which lasted around 30 minutes, involved over 30 Shahed-type drones targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure[1][2].
The strategic importance of Lozova as a major transportation hub, linking Southern, Prydniprovska, and Donetsk railways, is believed to be the cause of the strike[2][3]. The attack caused extensive damage, leaving two people dead, including a Ukrzaliznytsya shift mechanic, and approximately ten others injured, among whom were children aged 13 and 14[1][2][4].
The attack resulted in fires in multiple locations, severely damaging the Lozova train station and other railway infrastructure, residential multi-story buildings, private homes, and an energy facility. This disrupted key utilities such as water and electricity, requiring emergency repair efforts[1][2][3][5].
The railway station had to close temporarily, and two suburban trains were canceled. Many others experienced delays or were rerouted via backup locomotives, causing significant disruption to rail traffic, particularly long-distance travel between Uman, Cherkasy, and Kharkiv[2][3].
Emergency services were actively responding to fires and infrastructure repair in the aftermath. The attack prompted concerns about security leaks, as Ukrainian authorities reported uncovering a mole within their Defense Forces possibly aiding Russian attempts in the Kharkiv region[1].
As of the latest update at around 12:00, the death toll in Lozova has risen to 2. Train No. 66/65 - 166/165 Uman - Zaporizhzhia - Kharkiv is currently running on a detour route due to shelling. The detour is under a reserve diesel locomotive, and delays of up to an hour are expected on the Kramatorsk route[6].
Four injured people from the Russian strike remain in the hospital in stable condition. The attack on Lozova occurred approximately between 2:30 and 3:00, as confirmed by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office[7]. The enemy used more than 30 strike drones of the 'Geran-2' type in the attack[1].
The fires caused by the attack have been extinguished, and the buildings affected, including administrative, production, warehouse, and other buildings, as well as the station's roof, have been damaged[5]. Railway infrastructure, residential buildings, and an energy facility were also damaged in the attack[2][3].

War-and-conflicts continue to escalate in Ukraine, as the August 5, 2025 attack on Lozova by Russian forces stirs up general-news debates and concerns about politics and crime-and-justice. The strategic location of Lozova as a transportation hub in the Kharkiv region was targeted in this strike, causing extensive damage to civilian areas, critical infrastructure, and key utilities like water and electricity. Emergency repair efforts are underway, but the disruption to rail traffic, particularly long-distance travel, and the rise in the death toll indicate a dire situation that demands political attention and justice.
