Rahul Gandhi Denies Submission of Threat Case in Pune Court; Legal Representative Acknowledges Mistake
In a recent turn of events, Rahul Gandhi's plea for "preventive protection" in a defamation case has been withdrawn. The initial application, filed in a Pune court on August 13, expressed concerns over Rahul Gandhi's safety due to the lineage and ideological background of the complainant, Satyaki Savarkar [1][3].
The case stems from Rahul Gandhi's 2023 speech in London, where he allegedly referenced an incident from Savarkar's writings involving violence against a Muslim man. However, Savarkar has denied the existence of such an account and filed a complaint seeking Gandhi's conviction under Section 500 of the IPC [2].
Initially, Rahul Gandhi's lawyer submitted that given Savarkar's descent from Nathuram Godse, there was a substantial apprehension of harm to Gandhi [1]. However, the Congress later clarified that the "threat to life" plea was filed by the lawyer without Rahul Gandhi's knowledge or consent [4]. Consequently, the plea was withdrawn to avoid any procedural or legal complications [5].
Advocate Milind D. Pawar, who filed the application, issued a press release acknowledging this [6]. The next court date for the case is scheduled for September 10, 2025 [3].
Meanwhile, Satyaki Savarkar has also accused Rahul Gandhi of perjury, alleging Gandhi gave false statements under oath about receiving the defamatory video used as evidence in the case [2].
