Entain Announces Closure of Crayford Greyhound Stadium, Offers Support to Affected Parties

In a significant development, global entertainment and betting giant Entain has confirmed the closure of the Crayford Greyhound Stadium, effective from Sunday, January 19, 2025. The decision, taken by Entain's Ladbrokes brand, comes after careful consideration, given the track's long history in greyhound racing.

The Crayford Racing track, which has been a staple in the community since 1986, will hold its final races on the said date. Trainers will be welcome to continue racing their dogs at other greyhound tracks in the UK. The track will cease operation two days later, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Entain has expressed its commitment to supporting the impacted employees at the Crayford Greyhound Stadium. The company has tried to relocate as many workers as possible and provided support to the rest. The affected employees have gone through a two-stage consultation process about the closure. Officials have tried to contact everyone who would be impacted by the closure.

For those seeking further information, Entain advises directing questions towards the Retail Customer Care Team. The greyhounds themselves will receive the needed care, with every affected dog being "cared for through an enhanced investment and rehoming strategy."

The closure of the Crayford Greyhound Stadium is due to its lack of profitability. Entain had explored various alternatives for the track but settled on the closure. This decision comes as Entain reaffirms its guidance for 2024, indicating that group EBITDA will reach the upper end of its previously announced $1.27 billion to $1.33 billion guidance range.

The Crayford Racing track, once a major highlight in Crayford, saw a significant drop in popularity in recent years. Meanwhile, Entain's betting business, BetMGM, has faced certain struggles in 2024.

Fans can still book tickets for the remaining races at the Crayford Racing track online or by contacting the track office directly. Customers who have booked tickets for races after January 19 will receive full refunds. The tracks in Romford, Hove, and Monmore will continue their operations as usual.

As the Crayford Greyhound Stadium prepares for its final races, Entain will provide support for the individuals affected by the closure through the Racing Foundation. The company remains committed to its mission of responsible entertainment and, in this case, ensuring a smooth transition for all parties involved.
