Racing track in Crayford, confirmed closure and announced the date for its final race

In a surprising announcement, Crayford Racing has revealed that the final races at the Crayford Greyhound Stadium will take place on Sunday, 19th January 2025. The stadium will formally cease operation two days later, on Tuesday, 21st January 2025.

Entain, the owner of the Crayford Greyhound Stadium, confirmed that the track is no longer profitable. The company has been exploring various alternatives for the track but has decided on its closure. This decision was not taken lightly, considering Entain's long history in greyhound racing and the track's 35-year history, which began in 1986.

Officials have made efforts to contact everyone who will be impacted by the closure. Each employee has gone through a two-stage consultation process regarding the closure. Entain is providing support to impacted employees and is attempting to relocate as many workers as possible.

Trainers will be welcome to continue to race their dogs at other greyhound tracks in the UK. Customers who have booked tickets for races after 19th January will receive full refunds as soon as possible. Tickets for the remaining races at the Crayford Greyhound Stadium can be booked online or by contacting the track office.

The greyhounds themselves will receive the needed care. Every affected dog will be 'cared for through an enhanced investment and rehoming strategy.' However, no relevant information was found regarding which organization supports those affected by the closure of the Crayford Greyhound Stadium.

It's worth noting that Entain's Ladbrokes brand has faced certain struggles in 2024, and BetMGM's betting business has also experienced challenges. Despite these difficulties, Entain and BetMGM have reaffirmed their guidance for 2024. The company also indicated that group EBITDA will reach the upper end of its previously announced $1.27 billion to $1.33 billion guidance range.

The Crayford Greyhound Stadium used to be a major highlight in Crayford, but it saw a significant drop in popularity the past few years. Fixtures at the tracks in Romford, Hove, and Monmore will continue as usual. Affected parties are advised to direct any questions towards the Retail Customer Care Team.

As the final races approach, the Crayford Greyhound Stadium bids farewell to its loyal patrons, trainers, and greyhounds. The track has been a part of the community for over three decades, and its closing marks the end of an era for greyhound racing in Crayford.
