Racing Strategy of the Longshot from the UK at Melbourne Cup Causes Concern for Race Officials

The Racing Post Previews Meydaan's Challenging Bid for the Lexus Melbourne Cup

Meydaan, a four-year-old son of the legendary Frankel, is gearing up for a daring attempt at the Lexus Melbourne Cup on November 4. Trained by Michael Moroney, the horse is currently best-priced at 100-1 with bet365.

In quarantine with a view to flying on September 27, Meydaan has been assigned a weight of 54kg (8st 7lb), placing him at number 24 on the list for the A$10 million (£4.86m/€5.59m) Group 1 race.

The horse's trainer, Michael Moroney, is no stranger to the high-stakes world of horse racing. Meydaan, however, is considered one of the most aggressive betting risks in the history of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.

David Hegan, the race's handicapper, has expressed concern that Meydaan might be wrong at the weights. In fact, Hegan picked out Meydaan as the horse he is most scared is wrong at the weights. Ed Crisford jnr believes that David Hegan has every right to be worried about Meydaan's potential performance.

Subscribing to The Racing Post digital newspaper grants access to award-winning journalism from the best writers in racing. The subscription also includes expert tips from Tom Segal and Paul Kealy, as well as form study tools such as the Pro Card and Horse Tracker.

An extensive archive of statistics covering horses, trainers, jockeys, owners, pedigree, and sales data is included, making it easier for racing enthusiasts to delve deeper into the world of horse racing. Replays and results analysis from all UK and Irish racecourses are accessible, providing a comprehensive view of Meydaan's past performances.

Despite the concerns, David Hegan described Meydaan as a horse that could improve his rating and race beyond expectations. With a reputation as an aggressive betting risk, Meydaan's price might not last much longer for the Lexus Melbourne Cup.

As Meydaan prepares for his journey Down Under, racing fans worldwide will be keeping a close eye on this four-year-old son of Frankel. Will Meydaan defy the odds and secure a spot in the history books, or will the weight prove too much to bear? Only time will tell.

The race is on!
