Racing Starts: Debut of Initial Sportsbook in Louisiana's Tribal Casino, Marksville

Louisiana joins the league of legal sports betting states, with Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville set to Welcome Bettors on October 6.

Wednesday marks the debut of Louisiana as a legal sports betting state, as bettors will flock to place their first licensed wagers at Paragon Casino's sportsbook, The Draft Room, from 3 p.m. CST onwards. This happenings is part of an exciting expansion for Betfred, a U.K.-headquartered bookmaker, which has partnerships in Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and now, Louisiana.

The Draft Room, an impressive sportsbook, offers traditional theater seating, a custom video wall, betting counters, kiosks, and a restaurant with 112 TVs and ample table and bar seating. Three "VIP fan caves" are also available for private gatherings. Paragon's partnership with Betfred Sports will deliver a top-notch sports betting experience.

"As a Louisianian and chairman of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, I am thrilled to help usher in sports betting to our state," said Chairman Marshall Pierite, representing the tribe that owns and operates Paragon Casino Resort.

The federally recognized Tunica-Biloxi Tribe, like other tribes in the state, operates on a licensure track separate from commercial sportsbooks.

Dauntingly, commercial operators eagerly lined up to gain regulatory approval in Louisiana starting from August 23, via an application process facilitated by the Louisiana State Police. The new state law enacted in June allows for wagering at brick-and-mortar locations at 20 existing gaming locations (casinos and racetracks) and up to 40 digital sports wagering platforms.

As of now, notable commercial operators that have applied for licensure include Caesars (who operates five casinos in Louisiana), Barstool Sportsbook, FanDuel, and WynnBET. Given the growing list of applicants, Louisiana's sports betting landscape is set to flourish further.

Louisiana State University turn heads recently when it announced a partnership with Caesars, designating the company the exclusive sportsbook and gaming partner. This move exemplifies the direction of the industry, as more institutions align themselves with renowned operators to elevate their sports betting experiences.
