Racing legend Tony Stewart to compete against his wife Leah Pruett in the NHRA Top Fuel series in 2026, as he persists in his career within the league.
Tony Stewart, a racing legend with an impressive career spanning various disciplines, is set to compete in his third season in NHRA Top Fuel competition in 2026. The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and Indy Racing League champion is aiming to add another NHRA Top Fuel title to his diverse and accomplished racing career.
However, Stewart's return to the track comes with a change of scenery. He will now move to Elite Motorsports to drive for Richard Freeman, a move made possible by Freeman's recent purchase of the team that had once been owned by Josh Hart. This change of team allows Stewart to continue working as both an owner and a driver, a role that will shift from driver to helping both Elite Motorsports and his own organization grow.
Stewart's departure from his own racing team, Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), means that he is not in a position to add a second Top Fuel car to TSR. This leaves the Direct Connection Dodge//SRT Top Fuel dragster, which Stewart has been driving in place of Leah Pruett for the past two seasons, with Pruett's name instead of his.
Pruett, who had taken more than a year off from racing to give birth to their first child, Dominic, is set to return to NHRA Top Fuel competition in 2026. This means Stewart and Pruett will race against each other in the NHRA Top Fuel competition next year, adding an exciting new dynamic to the series.
Elite Motorsports and Tony Stewart Racing have formed a marketing alliance, ensuring that Stewart's presence in the team will continue to benefit both parties. However, Stewart's racing career will come to an end in 2026, as he has retired from NASCAR and Stewart-Haas Racing has ceased operations, meaning he will not compete for any racing team in the 2026 season.
Stewart started his NHRA career by competing full-time in the Top Alcohol class. He earned his first career Top Fuel win earlier this year at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas, a testament to his skill and determination in the sport. As he prepares for his final season in racing, Stewart will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the NHRA Top Fuel competition.
