Racing legend Tony Stewart to compete against his wife Leah Pruett in the NHRA Top Fuel series come 2026, as he extends his career in the sport.

In an exciting turn of events, racing legend Tony Stewart has announced his plans to compete in the NHRA Top Fuel competition in 2026. Stewart will be joining Elite Motorsports, a team that was recently purchased by Richard Freeman, who previously owned the team by Josh Hart.

Stewart, a seasoned racer with an impressive career, will not only be driving for Elite Motorsports but will also take on the role of an owner. His aim is to help both Elite Motorsports and his own racing team, Tony Stewart Racing, grow and prosper.

The marketing alliance between Elite Motorsports and Tony Stewart Racing will undoubtedly provide a strong foundation for both teams. This strategic partnership is expected to bring significant benefits and opportunities for both parties.

Stewart's wife, Leah Pruett, is also a formidable force in the NHRA Top Fuel competition. The two will face off against each other in the upcoming season, adding an exciting twist to the competition.

Stewart's racing career spans across various disciplines, including three NASCAR Cup Series championships, the 1997 Indy Racing League (now IndyCar) championship, and two USAC championships. His recent successes in the NHRA include earning NHRA Rookie of the Year honours a year ago and his first career Top Fuel win earlier this year at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.

However, Stewart's move to Elite Motorsports comes with a challenge. The team still needs to secure funding for his car. Despite this, Stewart remains optimistic and is eager to get back on the track.

Interestingly, Stewart will be taking over Leah Pruett's top fuel seat, but the Direct Connection Dodge//SRT Top Fuel dragster will retain her name, not Tony Stewart's. Pruett, who took more than a year off from racing to give birth to their first child, Dominic, is set to return to racing in 2026.

Meanwhile, Richard Freeman, the new owner of the team, has also made headlines with his purchase of the team that was previously owned by Max Verstappen, the Formula 1 driver, who sold the team vehicle in 2022.

As Stewart prepares for his third season in NHRA Top Fuel competition, he is pursuing the NHRA Top Fuel title to add another championship to his diverse and accomplished racing career. The racing world eagerly awaits the exciting competition that lies ahead.
