Wreckin' the Races: Aqueduct Shutdown Over Loud Casino Show

Racing events in New York halted due to loud sounds emanating from Resorts World Casino disrupting the horse races.

In a surprising turn of events, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) pulled the plug on eight races at the Aqueduct racetrack in Queens over the weekend. The culprit? None other than their rowdy neighbor, Resorts World Casino!

Seems like they were hosting a wild March Madness-themed car and bike carnival in their parking lot, right beside the track's final stretch. The NYRA had no clue it was happening, and apparently, neither did the casino.

The casino was unable to quell the noise levels enough for racing to continue safely. You see, NYRA worries about the safety of horses and riders in such raucous conditions. To their credit, they scrambled to find a solution, but Resorts World just couldn't tame the noise. So, they called off the whole shebang.

No worries though, racing fans – NYRA has vowed to team up with the NY Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association to bring back the equine entertainment spectacle soon. So, look forward to more races in the future to make up for missed momentum from Sunday.

Funny thing is, this isn't the first time such drama involving Resorts World has halted racing at Aqueduct. Back in October, an overspray of chemicals on the casino's roof led to issues with air quality, causing the suspension of no less than nine races.

Research shows that the recent cancellation in March 2025 is due to the excessive noise created by the "March Madness Auto and Bike Show," and not a recurring theme across multiple events. This seems to be an isolated incident, as there's no evidence of previous instances in available data.[1][2][3][4][5] Nonetheless, we'll be keeping our ears peeled for any future noise-related incidents at the racetrack!
