Alpine Secures Long-Term Deal with Pierre Gasly Amidst Turbulent Period

In a surprising turn of events, Alpine has secured a long-term contract extension with Pierre Gasly, keeping the talented driver with the former Renault team until 2028. This decision comes amidst a period of chaos for Alpine, marked by frequent departures of bosses, key employees, and drivers.

Gasly, who has established himself as one of the best drivers in the Formula 1 midfield in terms of points, has achieved points for Alpine and his presence is seen as crucial for the team's standing. Without him, the team's situation would look even gloomier.

The new rules for cars and engines, set to apply in Formula 1 from next year, could potentially shake up the field. Rumours suggest that Mercedes, with whom Alpine will become a customer team for engines from next year, will have the strongest power unit under the new regulations.

Alpine views the deal as fantastic, as they have their number one driver on board for three more seasons. Flavio Briatore, the manager of Alpine responsible for the contract extension decision with Pierre Gasly, serves as the executive advisor and de facto team principal of Alpine in Formula One.

Gasly's career as a Red Bull driver is well-documented, and he achieved a significant milestone by winning the Italian Grand Prix in Alpha Tauri (now Racing Bulls) in 2020.

However, the decision to bind himself to Alpine for three more seasons is a big risk for Gasly, as he is gambling his last years in his prime for a team that could still be at the back in the coming seasons.

It's worth noting that Alpine is ending its own engines from next year, and the team currently finds itself at the bottom of the Formula 1 constructors' standings, with only 20 points to its name. Despite the hopes of a upturn for Alpine by Flavio Briatore, this has not yet materialised.

The future of Pierre Gasly's career remains a topic of discussion, but one thing is certain - his talent and determination will continue to shine on the Formula 1 circuit with Alpine for the foreseeable future.
