Racing Champion Lando Norris secures victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, following a nail-biting battle with his teammate Oscar Piastri.
In a thrilling race-long battle, Lando Norris clinched victory at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, converting his pole position into a hard-fought win by a margin of 2.695 seconds over Oscar Piastri.
Norris, driving for McLaren, demonstrated strategic prowess throughout the race, skillfully using his DRS to fend off Piastri's relentless attempts to overtake. This was particularly evident at Turn 4, where Norris held his ground despite Piastri nearly overtaking after locking his brakes.
Piastri, who finished second for McLaren, initially built a 6.5-second lead over Norris but saw this advantage diminish after his final pit stop on lap 53, moving to Medium tyres. Norris, who pitted a lap earlier, managed to regain the lead, maintaining a 6.5-second advantage until the chequered flag.
Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finished third, while Liam Lawson delivered Racing Bulls a strong sixth-place finish. The race was marred by an early incident involving Max Verstappen and Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, which saw Verstappen knocked out of the race on lap one.
The Safety Car was immediately deployed following the accident, but the race resumed shortly after. Both Norris and Piastri made pit stops for new tyres during the race, with Piastri's lead over Norris reducing from 6.5s to just over 3 seconds after his final pit stop.
However, Piastri's challenge was hampered by a flat spot on his tyres after the pit stop, allowing Norris to extend his lead. Piastri did manage to close the gap again after an incident with Franco Colapinto, who was given a five-second time penalty for forcing Piastri onto the grass during the race.
Despite the close competition, McLaren achieved a dominant one-two finish, reinforcing Norris's momentum in the 2025 championship. The intense yet respectful intra-team battle between Norris and Piastri narrowed the gap to Piastri, with both teammates fiercely competing for their maiden world title while contributing to McLaren's constructor success.
Gabriel Bortoleto also made headlines, taking his first F1 points with an eighth-place finish. The Austrian Grand Prix was a testament to the exciting and unpredictable nature of Formula 1 racing, with Norris emerging as the victor in a nail-biting finish.
