Egan Bernal Aims for Grand Tour Triple and World Championships Success

Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal, a two-time Grand Tour winner, has set his sights on a new challenge – completing the prestigious Grand Tour triple by winning the Vuelta a España at some point in his career. This ambition will take centre stage in his upcoming races, starting with the Vuelta a Burgos and culminating at the World Championships in Rwanda.

Bernal, who races for Ineos Grenadiers, will return to racing on Tuesday at the Vuelta a Burgos. Known for its punchy days and steep climbs like the Lagunas de Neila, the race offers a challenging test for the riders, particularly Bernal, who thrives in such conditions.

After the Vuelta a Burgos, Bernal's focus shifts to the World Championships in Rwanda. The hilly course, expected to favour climbing specialists, aligns with Bernal's strengths, making it an exciting prospect for the Colombian. Although his specific goals for the event are not finalized, Bernal has shown a propensity for aiming high at World Championships, often targeting a podium finish or even victory.

Bernal's return to racing marks the start of his preparation for the Vuelta a España and the World Championships. His recent training in Europe and his home country of Colombia has seen him show signs of his former Grand Tour-winning level at the Giro d'Italia, where he finished seventh overall.

In the Vuelta a España, Bernal sees Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) as the main competition. Despite this, Bernal is determined to target the overall win, a challenge he is eager to tackle.

Following the World Championships, Bernal plans to race the Italian Classics. This will be his first time racing the World Championships as an elite rider, a milestone he is undoubtedly looking forward to.

Bernal's ultimate dream, however, remains the completion of the Grand Tour set. Winning the Vuelta a España and completing the Grand Tour triple is a goal he holds dear, a testament to his ambition and determination in the world of cycling.

Egan Bernal, aiming for success at the World Championships in Rwanda, has also set his sights on the realm of sports by targeting the Grand Tour triple, which includes winning the Vuelta a España. Known for excelling in challenging conditions, Bernal will first contest the Vuelta a Burgos, a race renowned for its punchy days and steep climbs.
