US Author Rachel Kushner Wins the 'Spiegel Literature Prize' - Rachel Kushner Wins Inaugural Spiegel Book Prize for *Creation Lake* in Germany

American writer Rachel Kushner has won the first-ever Spiegel Book Prize for her novel Creation Lake. The award ceremony took place in Hamburg on Thursday evening. Her book stood out among 20 nominated titles for its gripping yet unsympathetic protagonist and deep reflections.

The Spiegel Book Prize recognizes outstanding fiction published in German this year. Kushner’s Creation Lake, translated by Bettina Abarbanell, was released by Rowohlt Verlag. The novel’s complex narrator and layered storytelling impressed judges.

The prize highlights Kushner’s growing influence in German-speaking literary circles. Creation Lake will remain available in German as See der Schöpfung, published by Rowohlt in 2025. The award solidifies her reputation for bold, thought-provoking fiction.
