A Warning for Motorists: Gear Up for the Annual Speed Trap Extravaganza!
- Race is about to commence: Blitz Marathon is setting off at a steady pace.
(Beware ofSpeed trap Marathons, those not careful might lose their license)
Drivers, beware! The so-called Speed Trap Marathon is back, and it's time to watch your speed. Across the nation, law enforcement officials will be keeping a close eye on speed traps to promote road safety, particularly on Wednesday.
This operation serves as a call for greater caution and safety on the roads. According to Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU), "Speed checks boost road safety, they're not a revenue-generating scheme by the state."
The Speed Trap Marathon is part of a Europe-wide speed control week, during which authorities will intensify traffic monitoring in many parts of Germany. Speeding tickets and fines will be issued to offenders. Usually, the event lasts an entire day.
Gearing up for a record-breaking count
In 2020, around 13,700 vehicles were caught on camera in Baden-Württemberg — a 430-vehicle increase from the previous year. There were 425 control points statewide. More than 400,000 vehicles were checked, leading to 113 driving bans[1][2]. District offices monitor speed, but no statistics are available for this[3].
