Race in Dusseldorf: Marathon Event
In the heart of Germany, the city of Düsseldorf hosted its long-awaited marathon after a six-year hiatus. The event, sponsored by Uniper, drew a significant crowd, with approximately 250,000 spectators lining the streets to cheer on the participants.
The marathon saw a total of 14,350 runners take part, including 76 children and young people who completed a four-kilometer course in the Kids Cups, aged from 2008 to 2013, and 166 children aged from 2024 to 2017 who completed a two-kilometer course.
The marathon was a competitive affair, with Alex Maier from the USA crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 2:08:33, setting a new personal best. Maier's win was not the only notable performance of the day; Leah Cheruto from Kenya won the women's marathon in 2:25:23, also setting a new personal best. Esther Pfeiffer won the women's half marathon in 1:09:43, with her husband Hendrik acting as her pacer.
The "Four wins" relay team, with Mayor Keller as the final runner, finished the marathon in under four hours at 14:12. The Fortuna legends relay team, accompanied by children from the Kinderhospiz Regenbogenland, also completed the marathon in exactly four hours.
Race Director Sonja Oberem expressed her satisfaction with the event, praising the team and volunteers for their hard work. The marathon concluded with the "Run and Beat" party at the Rheinterrasse.
