Full Speed Ahead! The 2026 Formula 1 Calendar is Here - With a Twist!
Here's what ya need to know:
Raise those victory flags, racin' fans! The schedule for the 2026 Formula 1 season is out, and it's gonna be a wild ride! The Canadian Grand Prix is set to scorch the tracks of Montreal from May 22 to 24, marking the seventh race of the 24-race marathon.
But beware, petrolheads, the clash of the titans may be upon us! Montreal's May date sets it smack dab in the middle of the Indianapolis 500, so get ready for some tough choices! The Indy 500 starts at 12:45 PM, with the Canadian Grand Prix following suit at the usual 2 PM.
The promoter of the Canadian Grand Prix, Octane Racing Group, has already announced the shift from its usual June slot to the "third or fourth weekend in May," starting in 2026. The goal? To group the European part of the season into one period and avoid the exhausting annual transatlantic crossing for teams.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem had this to say: "With 24 Grands Prix spread across five continents, this season (2026) will reflect the true nature of our community, as the geographical fluidity of our calendar demonstrates our commitment to making our championship more efficient and sustainable."
The new calendar layout means that the teams will only have to travel once for the Canadian Grand Prix and the Miami Grand Prix, as the Canadian Grand Prix will follow the Miami Grand Prix, which takes place from May 1 to 3. The races in Monaco and Spain, which preceded the Canadian Grand Prix this year, will be pushed to June to be grouped with the other European races.
Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 President and CEO, added: "From 2026, we will enter a new era in Formula 1, which will allow us to witness the implementation of new regulations, the arrival of new cars and new engines powered by 100% renewable fuels." The news also brings exciting additions like the new Madrid Grand Prix in September and the absence of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
Stay tuned, folks! We've got an action-packed 2026 ahead!
