Photographer Jamey Price Chases the Thrill of Motorsports

Jamey Price, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based photographer, has built a career capturing the raw energy and emotion of motorsports events around the world. His passion for racing and photography started at a young age, fueled by his devotion to F1 Racing Magazine and his grandmother's love for photography.

Price's work demands intense focus and stamina, as he often faces danger while capturing racing moments and works long, marathon-like days. Last year, he upgraded to mirrorless cameras to better suit the demands of his work. His arsenal includes two cameras and an array of lenses, including a 400mm f/2.8 with a built-in teleconverter.

Price's self-published book, "Chasing: Racing Life in England & Ireland," showcases his unique perspective on the world of motorsports. He has chronicled premier racing events, including NASCAR, The 24 Hours of Nürburgring, MotoGP, IMSA, the Kentucky Derby, World Endurance Championship, 24 Hours of Daytona, and more than 35 Formula 1 races.

Price's work has earned him recognition, including being named Motorsport Photographer of the Year by the National Motorsports Press Association in 2019. He is also well-versed in a variety of photography styles, including product photography, portrait photography, and food photography, covering spreads at F1 races in the hospitality rooms.

Each race presents its own unique challenges for Price, with factors like weather, time of year, cars, and drivers contributing to the unpredictability. He excels at capturing the energy and atmosphere of races, including pit stops and the emotions of driving teams at the end of the race.

In the next few days, Price will photograph a motorsport event in Charlotte, NC, with the exact location to be announced. This is connected to a talk he is giving on September 26, 2025, where he will share his experiences capturing fast moments in motorsport photography.

Adorama's video series, "Shoot For Speed with Jamey Price," will premiere on 1/10/2025, 10 am EST. Price looks forward to the variable nature of motorsports photography every time he covers a race, and his passion for the sport shows in every frame.

Price's big break came when he photographed a quirky essay on the bow ties of male spectators at a horse race, which earned him a $1,200 commission from Southern Living. He has since covered The 24 Hour Nürburgring, a renowned endurance race held annually at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. He has also photographed the 24 Hours at Daytona races in the U.S. and is about to cover his 11th one later this month.

Price's dedication to his craft and his love for motorsports make him a sought-after photographer in the world of racing. His work continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in motorsports photography, and his upcoming projects promise to be just as exciting as his past ones.
