Race at Getxo Circuit: UAE Team Emirates-XRG Rules with Isaac del Toro Taking Solo Win on Final Ascent

In the thrilling climax of the 80th Circuito de Getxo, Isaac del Toro of UAE Team Emirates-XRG clinched a decisive victory, riding solo for the final climb of Alto de Pike. The 21-year-old Mexican rider held his advantage, time-trialling his way to the finish line, securing a comfortable win against the chasing group [1][2][5].

The race began with a ten-rider breakaway, kept on a small gap by the peloton. However, as the race entered its closing stages, a small group containing Julien Bernard (Lidl-Trek), Orluis Aular (Movistar), and Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek) attacked with 50km to go [3]. Simmons and Aular, despite working well with the members of the early breakaway, ultimately went clear with just over 30km to go [6].

UAE Team Emirates-XRG, who had dominated the event, kept the breakaway close at hand throughout the race and caught Simmons, Aular, and the remaining breakaway members at the foot of the Alto de Pike with around 17km to go [7]. It was then that Juan Ayuso, another rider from UAE Team Emirates-XRG, played a key role. He brought back the breakaway and helped launch Del Toro’s decisive attack [2].

Del Toro, with the pace set by Ayuso, made a decisive attack and maintained his advantage solo to the finish line [4]. Ayuso, in a tough sprint, outsprinted the local Basque rider Alex Aranburu (Cofidis) for second place [1][2][4].

This victory marks Del Toro's eighth win of the season and pushes the team's season victories to 69 [2]. The team, after a tough previous day at Clásica de San Sebastián, showcased strong tactics and teamwork in the Basque Country [1][2].
