Rabenauer Straße faces major construction starting April 2026
A major construction project is set to begin along Rabenauer Straße in Wieseck on April 1, 2026. The work will stretch from Albert-Osswald-Platz to Badener Hohl, bringing significant changes to traffic and public transport in the area. The city plans to complete the upgrades by the 50th calendar week of 2026. The first phase of the project will focus on the section between house number 24 and Alten-Busecker Straße. During this time, Rabenauer Straße will be fully closed to through traffic, and parts of the sidewalk will also be inaccessible. Parking will be suspended in the affected zones, though residents will still be able to reach their properties by car.
The city will overhaul key infrastructure, including main sewer lines, lateral connections, and road surfaces. Sidewalks will be resurfaced, and underground utilities—such as electricity, natural gas, and drinking water networks—will be modernised. Additionally, Gießen Public Utilities (SWG) will expand the district heating network along the same stretch. Bus Route 5 will face diversions due to the road closure. In the direction of Gießen Hauptbahnhof, buses will depart from the 'Friedhof' stop and follow a temporary route via Alten-Busecker-Straße, Gießener Straße, and Alte Schulstraße. Towards Wieseck, services will leave from the 'Röderring' stop and travel via Wiesecker Weg, Gießener Straße, and Alten-Busecker Straße.
The project aims to improve essential services and road conditions in the area. While disruptions are expected, the city has planned alternative routes for buses and maintained access for residents. All work is scheduled to finish by late 2026.
