"R&R" Comedy Series in Production Development by Jaime Pressly's Liston James Productions Following Its Debut at SXSW
In the realm of television comedy, a new series is poised to stir things up with its distinctive premise and dedication to diversity. 'R&R', a comedy series penned by JJ Hertz, delves into the lives of two twins, Rachel and Robbie, presenting a novel and candid portrayal of their existence.
JJ Hertz, repped by Range Media Partners, has fashioned a narrative that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious. Rachel, a character who is sarcastic and unapologetically gay, is juxtaposed with her twin brother Robbie, who has Down syndrome and exhibits a neurotic organizational streak.
The pilot episode of 'R&R' has been chosen for the Episodic program at the Nashville Film Festival, with a screening slated for September 20 at the Regal Green Hills. The series is also expected to be executive produced by Jaime Pressly, Kelly Brown, JJ Hertz, and Alex Hertz.
Pressly will also assume the role of Roda, the twins' mother, in the series. Notably, Pressly has recently launched a new production banner, Liston James Productions, which is developing 'R&R'.
As the series gains traction, JJ Hertz is on the lookout for a team of scribes to craft the first season, with a particular interest in queer and/or disabled writers, including those with Down syndrome. Writers with Down syndrome interested in being considered for the 'R&R' writers room can submit writing samples at the link in the @randrseries Instagram bio or at randrproduction.com.
The series debuted a 10-minute proof-of-concept pilot at SXSW in March, and it has already garnered recognition, winning Best Pilot at the Baton Rouge Underground Film Festival. 'R&R' also took home the Inclusive Creator Award at SeriesFest 2025.
JJ Hertz, inspired by their own bond with their brother who has Down syndrome, aspires to propel representation forward on the small screen while creating a series that is 'universally relatable'. The series serves as a long-awaited representation for individuals with Down syndrome on television, as Chris Burke was the first and only actor with Down syndrome to play a major character on television in the 1989 ABC series Life Goes On.
As Liston James continues to secure independent financing for the first season of 'R&R', audiences eagerly await the full-length pilot episode, directed by JJ Hertz and starring Kevin Iannucci as Robbie. A trailer for the pilot episode is embedded at the bottom of the post, providing a tantalizing glimpse into the world of 'R&R'.
