Quickest One-Day International (ODI) centuries for India, comprehensive list updated: Mandhana surpasses Kohli's speed record with a 50-ball hundred
In a thrilling display of power-hitting and precision, Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana shattered the Indian record for the fastest century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against England in a match that saw a plethora of records tumble.
Mandhana's 50-ball century, the second-fastest in women's ODI cricket, surpassed Yuvraj Singh's 65-ball effort against England in Rajkot in 2008, making it the fastest by an Indian batter in both men's and women's cricket.
The hosts got off to a stellar start in their chase, boosted by Mandhana's 125. By the time she was dismissed, India had scored 216-4 in 21.1 overs, well ahead of the required run-rate.
KL Rahul, meanwhile, holds the sixth-fastest ODI hundred by an Indian batter, with a 63-ball effort against Netherlands in Bengaluru in 2023. Virat Kohli, who previously held the record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian batter, scored it in 52 balls. Kohli has two entries in the top 10, with his 61-ball hundred in Nagpur in the same 2013 series against Australia.
Rohit Sharma and Kedar Jadhav also made their mark in the list, scoring centuries off 64 balls and 66 balls respectively. Sharma achieved this feat against Afghanistan in Delhi in 2023, while Jadhav scored his century off 66 balls against England in Pune in 2017.
Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag are not far behind, with Raina scoring an ODI hundred off 66 balls against Hong Kong in Karachi in 2008 and Sehwag against Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009.
Mandhana's innings was a spectacle of clean hitting, as she hit 17 fours and five sixes. The match also saw the highest aggregate of runs in a women's ODI, surpassing the previous record of 678 between England and South Africa in 2017.
The match was a high-scoring affair, with India being asked to chase a record 413, the joint sixth-highest target in women's ODIs. Beth Mooney of England also scored a 57-ball century in the same match, matching the previous second-fastest effort.
Mandhana's record-breaking performance is a testament to her growing prowess in the game and her ability to adapt to different conditions. Her 50-ball century is a significant milestone in her career and Indian cricket as a whole.
