Question in focus: Who or what is the concern for the left side following Stanisic's injury?
Bayern Munich Face Injury Concerns as Stanisic Sustains Knee Injury Against Chelsea
Bayern Munich faced a setback in their match against Chelsea, with defender Josip Stanisic sustaining a knee injury during the game. The Austrian player, who was primarily planned for the central defense but was playing as a left-back due to exceptional circumstances, clutched his knee after a collision with Trevor Chalobah.
The injury has left a void on the left side of the defense, with Alphonso Davies not yet ready and Raphael Guerreiro also unavailable for training. As a result, Min-jae Kim could be deployed as the left defender or part of a three-man defense.
Coach Vincent Kompany had to replace Stanisic in the 51st minute, and Jonathan Tah, who was substituted at halftime due to a yellow card, was also forced to leave the field. Substituting Tah gave Kompany the opportunity to grant him a break.
Despite the injuries, Bayern Munich managed to put up a strong performance, with Sacha Boey winning almost every duel during the match. Boey's performance was praised by both Christoph Freund, the sports director, and Joshua Kimmich. Freund also commended Min-jae Kim for his concentrated performance.
Interestingly, Konrad Laimer, who joined Munich as a midfielder, has officially seen himself as an outside back in recent times, and was moved to the left-back position to fill the void left by Stanisic. Laimer's performance was commendable, and he held his own against Chelsea's attack.
Stanisic himself reported feeling fine and stated that he could play, but a definite diagnosis for his injury is still pending. The severity of the injury has caused concern for Freund, who is keeping a close eye on the situation.
With the injury to Stanisic, Bayern Munich will need to find a replacement on the right side for the plan with Laimer on the left side to work. The Bavarian giants will be hoping that they can find a solution quickly to ensure they can continue their winning streak.
