Queen Camilla donned a sapphire brooch steeped in centuries-old royal tradition for Trump's official visit.
Queen Camilla Revisits Historic Brooch for State Visit to the USA
In an unexpected turn of events, Queen Elizabeth II was absent from a recent public appearance due to health reasons, marking her most recent missed engagement. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla made a significant fashion statement by revisiting a historic brooch during a recent State Visit to the USA.
On Wednesday morning, Queen Camilla donned the Russian Sapphire Cluster Brooch for the occasion, a piece that was first worn by her for the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in 2023. This brooch, acquired by the Royal Family in 1914, boasts a single massive sapphire set in an ornate gold frame, surrounded by 18 cut diamonds.
The Russian Sapphire Cluster Brooch has a rich history within the Royal Family. Queen Mary, the Queen's grandmother, first purchased the brooch in 1934. After Queen Mary's death in 1953, the brooch was inherited by the Queen Mother. Over the years, the Queen Mother was often photographed wearing the brooch on various occasions.
Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth herself wore the brooch during a trip to Vatican City to meet with Pope Francis in 2014. Now, Queen Camilla has revisited this symbolic piece for the morning's ceremony in the USA.
In a separate event, the Prince of Wales Feather brooch made its appearance, as Kate Middleton wore it on the same day. This brooch, originally belonging to the Imperial Russian Court dating back to the 1840s, has been worn by previous Princesses of Wales since 1863.
The State Visit in question was an unprecedented second for King Charles and Queen Camilla, as they welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to Windsor Castle.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Kent's funeral, which took place on an unspecified day, saw another significant absence. The Queen missed the funeral due to recovering from acute sinusitis.
Rachel King, a news writer at Town & Country, has covered this event and many others, with her work appearing in multiple prestigious publications such as Forbes, Observer, Robb Report, Cruise Critic, and Cool Hunting.
