Kai Proeger began his football journey at local clubs before moving up the ranks. He first joined 1. FSV Mainz 05's reserve team, then transferring to BFC Dynamo, where he played for two seasons. Following that, he shone at Rot-Weiss Essen, scoring 18 goals and providing 8 assists in 60 appearances.
In the 2018/19 season, he moved to SC Paderborn and helped them win promotion to the Bundesliga. There, he continued to impress as a starter, scoring two goals, including one against FC Bayern Munich. Proeger, now standing at the ripe age of 33, continues to thrive in the game, having recently signed with VfL Osnabrück.
