Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love On Track for Quick Recovery After Surgery
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced that Jordan Love's surgery on his left thumb ligament went well, and the quarterback is expected to start throwing again within a week after the procedure. The surgery took place on August 12, 2025.
Love, who sustained the injury during the Packers' preseason opener against the New York Jets, had been wearing a red jersey draped over his head and a cast around his surgically repaired thumb. He did not participate in the joint practice with the Colts in Indianapolis.
The Packers' staff and General Manager Brian Gutekunst expect Love to be fully ready for the regular season opener on September 7, 2025, against NFC North rival Detroit. LaFleur indicated that Love is in good spirits and is expected to have some sort of participation in practice next week.
Love had a solid rookie season in 2020, passing for 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 15 games. He has continued to improve, starting 33 games in his career with a record of 18-15. Love has thrown for a total of 8,154 yards, with 60 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 42 career games.
In the meantime, Malik Willis is serving as the interim quarterback for the Packers. Love's quick recovery timeline is a welcome development for the team, as they aim to field their strongest lineup for the upcoming season.
