Qatar secures signing of Hertha Berlin's goalkeeper, Kwasigroch
In early August 2025, 21-year-old goalkeeper Robert Kwasigroch left Bundesliga 2 side Hertha BSC to join Al-Markhiya SC, a club in the second division of Qatari football. The transfer fee was reported to be around €300,000, and Kwasigroch signed a five-year contract with Al-Markhiya SC, who promised him a substantial salary.
Kwasigroch, who hails from Berlin, Germany, had been part of Hertha's academy since 2017. He made his professional debut in the 2. Bundesliga in September 2023 and spent the 2024-2025 season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Hertha's sporting director, Benjamin Weber, confirmed that Kwasigroch approached the club expressing his desire for a new sporting challenge. Weber expressed gratitude for Kwasigroch’s progression from the academy to the professional ranks at Hertha. Kwasigroch himself expressed appreciation for his development at Hertha, acknowledging his time from youth player to professional.
The move to Al-Markhiya SC marks Kwasigroch's first experience abroad, as he relocates from Berlin to Doha. His decision to seek a new challenge in Qatar was triggered by the opportunity that presented itself, leading to his expressed desire for a sporting change.
The transfer was confirmed by Hertha BSC and signifies a significant move for Kwasigroch, who is looking forward to this new chapter in his football career.
