In a recent visit to Doha, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks with Qatari leaders, focusing on ending the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The discussions centered on advancing a ceasefire proposal, coordinated mediation efforts, and plans to facilitate humanitarian aid to Gaza. This broader regional initiative, involving Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, aims to broker peace and alleviate the blockade causing famine in the region.

Turkey and Qatar, along with Egypt, have been jointly pushing a ceasefire proposal that includes a prisoner exchange agreement and a transitional phase where Hamas would suspend armed activities, guaranteed by mediators including Turkey. The goal is to provide an alternative to Israeli military offensives, with the aim of stabilizing the region and allowing aid deliveries to resume safely.

Qatari officials confirmed Hamas’s positive response to the ceasefire proposal and efforts to broker a deal, which Turkish involvement supports. The initiative seeks to end the expanded Israeli military assault on Gaza City while alleviating starvation risks, as the United Nations has formally declared famine conditions in northern Gaza.

The political coordination between Turkey and Qatar reflects their aligned position on ending hostilities and addressing the humanitarian emergency through negotiation and multilateral guarantees. Leveraging their roles as mediators, they aim to facilitate a ceasefire and aid access amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Fidan also discussed the Syrian file and conditions in the wider region with Qatari leaders, including Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Mustafa Göksu, affirmed that the visit was aimed at coordinating political positions between the two countries. Turkiye condemns the genocide being committed against the residents of the Gaza Strip and reiterates its commitment to alleviating the famine in Gaza.

The main objective of Minister Fidan's visit to Doha is to explore ways to end the famine in the Gaza Strip through intensified diplomatic and humanitarian efforts. The visit reflects a commitment by both leaderships to enhance joint efforts for security and stability in the region, supporting the Palestinian people and achieving security and stability in the region.

The Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar, Dr. Mustafa Göksu, expressed appreciation for Qatar's active mediation role since the crisis, whether through humanitarian aid or efforts to bring peace to the occupied territories. The Turkish Ambassador emphasizes Turkiye's aim to achieve security and stability in the region, supporting the Palestinian people, and ending the famine in Gaza.

The two-state solution is a strategic option for peace, according to the Turkish Ambassador. The Turkish Ambassador also underscored the shared political will between Turkey and Qatar to actively participate in resolving regional issues.

The Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar, H E Dr. Mustafa Göksu, made these statements during a press conference on the occasion of Turkish Foreign Minister H E Hakan Fidan's visit to Doha.
