Qatar Airways secures a massive $96 billion agreement with Boeing for purchasing jets.
Boeing Inks Mega Deal With Qatar Airways During Trump's Middle East Visit
On May 14, 2025, during a state visit to Qatar by United States President Donald Trump, Boeing, the American aerospace company, and Qatar Airways, the flag carrier of Qatar, signed a major agreement. The deal includes the purchase of up to 210 wide-body civilian airliners by Qatar Airways from Boeing, marking it as the largest widebody order in the company's history. The agreement is valued at approximately $96 billion.
The firm order comprises 160 aircraft, including 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, setting a new record for the largest Dreamliner order ever. In addition, Qatar Airways will acquire 30 Boeing 777-9 jets. The deal also includes options for an additional 50 aircraft, which, if exercised, will bring the total number of aircraft to 260.
The deal also includes an associated agreement with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines to power the new planes, representing the largest widebody engine purchase in GE Aerospace's history. The agreement was witnessed by President Donald J. Trump and Qatar's Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside Boeing and Qatar Airways executives.
This strategic investment is expected to support around 400,000 U.S. jobs and position Qatar Airways for further international expansion with a modern, efficient, and young fleet to meet growing passenger demand. The deal was signed as part of President Trump's visit to the Middle East and Gulf countries, where he aimed to secure major economic deals for the United States.
While Boeing had struggled in recent times, the new deal offers a much-needed boost to the company's sales. Notably, Qatar offered President Trump a 747-8 luxury jet valued at $400 million as a gift for his personal use, but due to national security and ethical concerns, the offer was not accepted.
In addition to the Boeing-Qatar Airways deal, among other economic deals signed by President Trump during his visit to the Middle East and Gulf countries is the US-Saudi Arabia arms deal, valued at approximately $142 billion. The agreement now holds the distinction of being the largest arms deal in history. It is part of a broader $600 billion investment package between the United States and Saudi Arabia, covering various sectors.
The package includes approximately $20 billion for artificial intelligence data centers, $14.2 billion for gas turbines and other energy equipment, and $5 billion for the purchase of Boeing 737-8 jets. The United States also approved a deal with Qatar for the sale of MQ-9B drones valued at nearly $2 billion and another deal with the United Arab Emirates involving the sale of CH-47F Chinook helicopters and related equipment at an estimated cost of $1.32 billion.
The Boeing-Qatar Airways deal solidifies Qatar Airways’ growth trajectory and Boeing’s position as a major aerospace supplier, supporting around 400,000 U.S. jobs and positioning Qatar Airways for further international expansion.
