In the wake of a tragic New Year's Eve incident in Hennef, a man named Faiz I. from Pankow, Berlin, finds himself in hot water. This trouble stems from the sale of explosive firecrackers, resulting in a fatal casualty and leaving another man severely injured.
Faiz I., a 21-year-old market stall operator, is presently on trial for selling Polish category 4 firecrackers to a known customer via online platforms and delivering them nationwide. The package contained up to 35 kilos of firecrackers, worth a whopping 850 euros.
The defendant admits to knowing the dangers associated with firecrackers and recommends that others research their usage online. However, he claims to be unaware of the casualty caused by handing one to a friend "in passing," who subsequently detonated it.
The police discovered a vast stock of unsold pyros in Faiz I.'s cellar during a search in March 2023. These included 12 "Cobra 6" and two packs of "Super Crackers," each carrying a hefty net explosive mass. The search also uncovered illegal weapons and contraband substances.
The defendant's lifestyle has drastically transformed, with significant weight loss and an absence of criminal activity since November 2022. Yet he still faces a myriad of charges, including negligent homicide, explosives trafficking, causing an explosion, and weapons act violations, among others. The severity of the sentence—up to five years in prison—hangs heavily over him.
