Pwllheli to Welcome UK's Foremost Young Sailors at the 2025 RYA Youth Nationals Competition
Ready to dive into the thrilling world of sailing? Buckle up as we delve into the 2025 RYA Youth National Championships! This sailing extravaganza, happening at Pwllheli, Wales, is about to rock the waves of Cardigan Bay from April 14-18, 2025.
Over 230 young, ambitious sailors will be battling it out across six classes – ILCA 6, ILCA 7, 420, 29er, Nacra 15, and iQFOiL. From fresh minds stepping into multi-class youth competitions to seasoned racers chasing national titles, this event is a melting pot of experience and passion.
The RYA Youth Nationals serves not just as a battleground for sailors, but also a launchpad for future world-class racing sailors. It nurtures a lifelong love for sailing and fosters friendships that endure long after the regatta ends.
On the final day, medal racing will light up the waters for fleets boasting over 20 entries, while iQFOiL riders (assuming favorable weather) will battle it out in a dynamic mix of course, sprint, and marathon formats. The 29er fleet will get a taste of high-octane sprint-style racing, too.
Throughout the event, the RYA will offer a wealth of resources for both sailors and parents. A series of workshops and informative sessions will cover topics such as British Sailing talent pathways and advice on the steps beyond youth racing.
Environmentally-friendly technology will be a key part of the event set-up, with self-propelled, GPS-guided buoys from MarkSetBot being used for race management. These innovative, eco-friendly buoys, popular in top-tier sailing events like SailGP, TP52, and America’s Cup, ensure rapid and precise course changes while reducing environmental impact.
