Russia to Conduct Experiment on Postponing VAT Payments for Imported Goods

Putin approves VAT payment delays for Russian importers in new trial

President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree introducing an experiment on postponing VAT payments for imported goods into Russia. The experiment will run until June 30, 2027. Until then, importers can receive an interest-free deferment of tax payments for up to three months.

The document aims to improve the stability of Russia's economic development and stimulate entrepreneurship.

According to the decree, the deferment will be provided for a period of up to three months from the date of release of goods. No interest will be charged for the deferment. Companies included in the register of authorized economic operators or in the list of system-forming organizations of the Russian economy can participate in the experiment. Applications for deferment can be submitted to the Federal Customs Service until June 15, 2027.

Among the criteria for participation in the experiment are the general tax regime, the absence of debt on customs payments, administrative fines, and bankruptcy proceedings.
