Kiko Pangilinan Elevates Philippine Agrarian Vision

Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, a senatorial hopeful, propels the agriculture sector to new heights, touting the P20-per-kilo rice as mere beginning. He insists on substantial budgetary increases to revolutionize farming and aquaculture in the country.

During his Bacolod City visit on April 30, Pangilinan asserted, "To make sustainable achievements in agriculture, we require a continuous influx of funds into this sector. budgetary support for harvest facilities, equipment, insurance, and essential resources is essential."

The aspiring senator accentuated the need for a significant funding boost compared to regional rivals like Vietnam and Thailand. He argued, "It's crucial that we raise our agriculture budget substantially. Ideally, we'd increase it by at least P100 to P200 billion annually for the next six years."

These increased funds, Pangilinan believes, will modernize the agricultural sector, enabling the execution of P20-per-kilo rice pledge made by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. during the 2022 presidential election.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson's endorsement boosts Pangilinan's campaign in the tight senatorial race, especially since Negros Occidental is a vote-rich province. Pangilinan expressed his commitment, promising to champion Lacson's legacy projects focusing on food security, agriculture, and fisheries modernization, and explore ways to bolster the province's agricultural sector further.

In addition to the proposed annual increases, Pangilinan also advocated for an additional P8 billion budget for the Department of Agriculture to invest in post-harvest infrastructure like drying and cold storage facilities, bolstering agricultural productivity.
