Revving Up Housing Construction: SPD's Plans Unveiled at Husum Conference
Increase residential building projects - Proposal at state party assembly - Push for More Housing: Motion Presented in National Congress (SPD-related housing initiative)
Get ready for a construction boom, y'all! The Schleswig-Holstein branch of the SPD is pushing hard for more housing construction, and they're not holding back. At their annual conference in Husum, they're planning to discuss a motion that'll shake things up in the housing market.
The mayor of Kiel, Ulf Kämpfer,Deputy state chairman, thinks the state should reform its game plan when it comes to housing. Remember LEG, the state development company we gave up on? Well, Kämpfer reckons it's high time we take it back. This revamped LEG could take charge of developing state-owned land and even build its own housing stock - including digs for state employees. Kämpfer's all for it, calling it a golden opportunity for the state.
Speaking of gold, Kämpfer argues the state doesn't have to break the bank to fund this venture. After all, Schleswig-Holstein's got plenty of undeveloped land just waiting to be tapped. "Affordable housing and profitability? No problem!" says Kämpfer.
The motion puts a big emphasis on affordable housing too. It calls for more funding, up to one billion euros a year, to be allocated towards it. Now, that might sound like a hefty sum, but according to Kämpfer, at today's interest rates, the state would only have to cough up around 20 million euros a year. "That's a no-brainer," he says.
But that's not all. The SPD wants to streamline the construction process too. Kämpfer's vision includes a "Schleswig-Holstein standard for simplified building," making it easier to deviate from building regulations and simplifying the state building code. The aim is to harmonize regulations with other federal states and make type approvals easier across borders. And get this, building permit validity could even be extended from three to five years!
And if you're a first-time home buyer struggling with the real estate transfer tax, the SPD's got your back. They want to introduce a tax allowance to make buying property a little less daunting.
So, are you ready to witness some major changes in the housing market, Schleswig-Holstein? Stay tuned for more updates on the SPD's ambitious plans!
