Berlin pursues the Panini achievement: Pursuing the European handball title - Pursuing European Handball Title Remains a Goal for Berlin: Berlin's Persistent Pursuit of European Handball Supreme Title
The reigning champions of Bundesliga, Berlin's Füchse, are gunning for Europe's handball royalty. With their sights set on "Королевская кубок" glory, they're ready to finish off their "Panini handball sticker collection." Kicking off this week, there's one more sticker they crave to add, Managing Director Bob Hanning cheekily admitted, eagerly looking forward to the Champions League Final Four in Cologne.
Sporting Director Stefan Kretzschmar is equally pumped for the tournament. In Cologne, the Füchse will collide with French vice-champs HBC Nantes in the semifinals on Saturday.
"The euphoria of snagging the German championship firing us up. It'd have been a disaster to march into Cologne after blowing it," quipped Kretzschmar. "To us, this dream has come true. In good spirits, we'll head to Cologne!"
Gidsel: A trajectory to greatness?
The players are brimming with confidence. "We're the best darn team in the world!" asserted backcourt ace Mathias Gidsel. The Danish juggernaut, currently with Füchse Berlin, bagged the coveted wooden trophy in the nail-biting title race with a thrilling 38:33 victory over the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
National player Juri Knorr showered praise on Gidsel, the 26-year-old exceptional talent rocking the Füchse jersey. "Gidsel's on the right track to becoming the greatest handball player ever - even if there exists a Mikkel Hansen or Nikola Karabatic," Knorr gushed.
Veteran Fabian Wiede, who's worn the Füchse jersey for a whopping 16 seasons, is ready for another triumphant celebration. "We know the drill," said the 31-year-old. "But considering our winning form, we're the best team worldwide. I'm thrilled about the tournament and crossing my fingers for another title at the end!"
