Six domestic violence shelters across the U.S. will receive grants totalling over $345,000 in 2025. The funding comes from the Purple Leash Project, a partnership between Purina and RedRover. These grants will help survivors keep their pets safe while escaping abuse.

The money will pay for pet-friendly renovations, secure outdoor spaces, and essential supplies. Since 2019, the project has nearly doubled the number of pet-friendly shelters nationwide.

The YWCA of Greater Cincinnati in Ohio secured two grants worth $115,000. This funding will upgrade pet-friendly rooms, build outdoor relief areas, and provide supplies for survivors and their animals.

One Safe Place in Texas received $60,000 to construct a secure pet relief area, a veterinary exam space, and stock up on pet essentials. In Utah, New Horizons Crisis Center also got $60,000 to create indoor and outdoor sheltered spaces, along with pet care items.

Women and Children First in Arkansas will use its $60,000 grant to build a new Safe Paws kennel. The facility will include a grooming station and a secure outdoor play area for pets. Meanwhile, International Women’s House in Georgia received $24,200 for two secure outdoor pet play areas.

Mountain Comprehensive Care Center in Kentucky was awarded $26,360 to build a similar outdoor space. Since its launch, the Purple Leash Project has funded over 60 grants, providing an estimated 282,825 safe nights for survivors and their pets.

The 2025 grants will expand pet-friendly shelter options for domestic violence survivors. Renovations and new facilities will allow more people to escape abuse without leaving their pets behind. The funding builds on years of work to increase safe housing for both survivors and animals.
