Rapid Vienna secured their place in the Round of 16 of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup with a narrow 2:1 victory over SV Oberwart. Tobias Gulliksen, the 22-year-old Norwegian offensive midfielder, shone on his debut for the Austrian Bundesliga club, scoring a brace to help his team overcome a tough challenge.

The match started with Rapid Vienna initially struggling against the resilient Oberwart side. The first real chance for Rapid came after 20 minutes, but it was Oberwart who broke the deadlock. Ndzie scored the only goal for Oberwart, a moment that brought the game back into balance.

However, just before halftime, Gulliksen scored his first goal for Rapid, assisted by Wurmbrand. The Norwegian midfielder, who wears the number 17 jersey and signed with Rapid until summer 2029, showed his quality with a well-timed header.

In the second half, Oberwart pushed for an equaliser, putting Rapid under pressure. Despite the pressure, Rapid maintained control but couldn't extend their lead. Stimac and Ried had a golden opportunity to increase the margin in the 60th minute, but they failed to capitalise.

An Oberwart goal by Ndzie was disallowed due to offside, keeping Rapid's lead intact. Oberwart converted a penalty to make the score 1:2, but it was too little, too late. Gulliksen sealed the victory with his second goal, again assisted by Wurmbrand, just before the final whistle.

There is much anticipation among Rapid fans about whether Gulliksen can replicate his performance in the Bundesliga. His debut for Rapid has certainly given a glimpse of his quality, and he will be a player to watch in the coming months.

The victory marks a positive start for Rapid in the ÖFB Cup, and they will be hoping to continue their good form in the next round. Questions remain about the necessity of the close finish in the match, but for now, Rapid fans can celebrate their team's progression in the competition.
