Puppet show teaches 200 preschoolers road safety in Weil am Rhein
Laughter, Wonder, and Learning Life-Saving Rules: Puppet Theater Captivates Preschoolers in Weil am Rhein While Boosting Road Safety
On Wednesday, April 29, around 200 children took center stage in a special prevention initiative. Local crime prevention authorities, together with the police, invited them to a puppet show designed to playfully prepare the next generation for the challenges of road traffic.
The performance stars characters like Traffic Officer Kasper and police dog Bello, who team up to track down a thief who has stolen road signs and a traffic light. Along the way, the children learn essential safety rules—how to cross the street properly, behave at pedestrian crossings, and obey traffic signals.
According to police, the prevention officers deliberately focus on fundamental lessons, such as emergency contact numbers and common road hazards. The goal is to instill this knowledge long-term while giving children a positive introduction to police work.
The young audience plays an active role, answering questions and demonstrating what they know—revealing that many are already familiar with key rules. The blend of play, suspense, and interaction ensures the lessons stay engaging and easy to grasp.
The event is part of the "Safe Route to School" campaign and takes place annually for preschoolers in Weil am Rhein. Its mission: to equip children early with the skills they need to navigate everyday traffic safely.
