Punisher Resurfaces, Prepared to Instigate New Waves of Violence
Get ready, action fans! The Punisher is back in town and ready to cause some chaos in the pages of Marvel Comics.
The vigilante anti-hero, Frank Castle, is making his comeback in a brand new five-issue miniseries titled Punisher: Red Band, written by Ben Percy (Wolverine) and illustrated by Julius Ohta (Iron Man). If you remember, the last time we saw Frank was back in 2023, when he took over the Hand ninja cult, learned his long-lost wife was still alive (and wanted a divorce!), and was sent to the strange realm of Weirdworld.
Now, Frank is back in New York, but with no memories of his past life. Don't worry though, he's still just as skilled at taking down bad guys! Expect the same gruesome violence and gritty action that Punisher fans know and love.
According to writer Ben Percy, "Frank Castle is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Punisher is a series I've been gunning to write for a long, long time. I'm going to lean in fully and push the very limits of my favorite genre: hairy psychopaths. This is going to be as gritty and bloody as it gets. Street-level mayhem awaits you."
It seems Marvel has struggled to decide how to handle Frank Castle in the past, with his Netflix series raising concerns after mass shootings and some police departments using his symbol to decorate their vehicles. But in Daredevil: Born Again, this issue was addressed by having Frank take out a group of Police Punisher impersonators.
We'll have to wait and see how Frank handles things when Punisher: Red Band hits shelves on September 10, 2025.
