Pumas earned a compensation payment from Daniel Alves following the termination of their contract, as stipulated by the CAS.

Daniel Alves, the former Barcelona and Pumas player, has found himself embroiled in a legal battle on two fronts. On one hand, he was acquitted of rape charges by the Barcelona appeals court on March 28, 2023, a decision that was met with an unsuccessful appeal from the Spanish public prosecutor. However, the supreme court ruling on these rape charges is yet to be reported.

On the other hand, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in a dispute between Daniel Alves and Pumas on September 1, 2023. The ruling confirmed the validity of the contract termination with just cause exercised by Pumas. The CAS ordered Alves to pay an amount greater than that set by FIFA as compensation for damages caused to the club, although the exact amount remains undisclosed.

This CAS ruling preceded the Spanish supreme court ruling on the rape charges. It is important to note that Daniel Alves played for Pumas before his contract termination and the rape accusations. His last match for the club was on January 8, 2023, in the Mexican league against FC Juarez (2-1).

The termination of Alves' contract by Pumas followed his preventive detention in Catalonia, accused of raping a young woman during the night of December 30-31, 2022, in a Barcelona nightclub. The initial sentence handed down was four and a half years in prison, a conviction that was later appealed by the Spanish prosecutor to the supreme court in May 2023. The prosecutor sought a nine-year prison sentence against Alves.

The acquittal was based on the lack of 'credibility' of the complainant and 'shortcomings' in the evidence presented. However, the current legal status of the dispute between Daniel Alves and the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding the compensation payment to his last club is not publicly disclosed or finalized as of now.

The statement regarding the CAS ruling was released by Pumas on their website. Despite these legal proceedings, Alves has denied the rape accusations. The outcome of these cases continues to unfold, with significant implications for both Alves' professional and personal life.
