Puducherry battles flooding as Tropical Cyclone Ditwah looms over the coast

Heavy downpour and the impending Tropical Cyclone Ditwah have triggered prompt action across Puducherry and Karaikal. Authorities have implemented measures to combat waterlogging, ensure public safety, and assist affected communities.

Puducherry received 41.8 mm of rain on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Other areas saw varying levels, with Thirukanur receiving 17 mm, Patukannu 21 mm, and Pangur the highest at 55 mm. The persistent rain led to waterlogging in several localities, prompting officials to act swiftly.

The combined efforts of drainage clearance, food distribution, and early business closures aim to mitigate risks from the tropical cyclone and heavy rain. Government teams remain on high alert to address any further challenges as the situation evolves.
