Hop aboard the violent, hilarious world of Troleu

Are you ready to embark on one of the most peculiar job simulator games? Troleu, a creation seemingly influenced by the experiences of Moldovan public transit from developer andrground, is a whirlwind of ticket-counting, pass validation, and chucking passengers at a vicious ticket inspector to protect your hard-earned wages.

In the demo version I've dived into, my primary responsibility as a trolleybus conductor is handling fares. At times, passengers would prefer to pay with cards, but many claim "credit is for internet weaklings"; instead, they toss a mountain of cash in my direction, forcing me to rifle through the various zippered compartments of my conductor satchel for the right change. And other times, passengers present their trolley passes, advising me to "not stare too intently."

Valid tickets earned me a freshly plucked ticket from the roll, but invalid or mismatched ones triggered only one response: A firm kick to the chest followed by hurling their thrown body from the relentless trolleybus. The law endorses this action.[1]

On my routes, the law would occasionally decree that old men were barred from trolleys due to an anti-pipe-smoking ordinance, or that little girls were suddenly forbidden from public transit due to excessive giggling. Any rule-breaking passenger on my trolley deducts from my wages upon arrival at a stop. Sorry, granny: The new law prohibits old ladies, and you're out.[2]

My day is filled with an ever-evolving ecosystem of violence and chaos. Some passengers unleash odd odors or loud music from portable speakers, while others shatter jarred pickles when the trolley hits potholes. And a few become immediately enraged, compelling me to engage in boxing minigames at a whim. Following several punches, sometimes my attackers drop cigarettes or valuables that I can barter with thieves who occasionally board the bus.

Thieves are paramount to this economy, as they're the only means to refill my tickets during a route.

You might be thinking, "Wow, this guy seems unfazed by casually inflicting violence on these virtual passengers." And I am, as the ticket inspector looms as the greater threat on these trolleybuses – an unsympathetic behemoth who boards the trolley to ensure each passenger has paid their fare.

If he discovers any infractions, he'll steal my earnings and hurl me off my own trolley by my head. Upon entering "kill mode," my only defense is to utilize my kicking expertise and hurl defenseless passengers at him, forcing him to retreat.

Despite the challenges, I frequently failed more than half the routes I tried, but I think we can agree that I'm doing my best.[3]

Troleu doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but you can already experience the demo on Steam.[4]

  1. In the game Troleu, a peculiar job simulator, winning your fare battles against unruly passengers and navigating changing transportation rules can provide ample entertainment, just like real-life street fights during the entertainment-laden game season.
  2. As a trolleybus conductor in Troleu, you may find yourself engaged in a game of punches against unruly passengers, which serves as an alternative form of fare collection, similar to how fight clubs operate in some unsanctioned game arenas during certain seasons.
  3. During your shift in Troleu, you must deal with fare evaders and thieves, making this more than just a bus job - it's a fight for the win and a test of survival, much like a season of endurance games or combat sports.
