Bustling Through the Chill: Yakutsk's Response to Water Woes

If you're a resident of Yakutsk, the nip in the air isn't just a winter breeze. Abnormal frosts have brought about issues with water supply and drainage in the city, and the authorities are taking no chances.

On a brisk January 3, Evgeny Grigoryev, the big cheese of Yakutsk city, held a marathon-length meeting with the cream of the crop from utility companies, enterprises, and departments of the city's housing and utilities block, along with emergency services. The discussions revolved around their ongoing efforts to keep the city kicking.

The day started with Evgeny Grigoryev cruising around town, stopping by the construction site of a building on 37 Chepala Street. Work has been ongoing since the previous night, involving muscle and machinery from MUP "Zhilkomservis", AO "Vodokanal", UK "Perspektiva", and AO "Yakutdorstroy".

"This morning, we've been scouting the city with representatives from utility companies, the Department of Housing and Communal Services of Yakutsk City Administration, and territorial management bodies. Lately, Yakutsk has been caught in a deep freeze. This freezing snap has led to problems with cold water supply and drainage. It seems a systemic issue has cropped up in buildings with individual heating boilers. To avoid any mishaps, we've decided to beef up managing companies with city enterprises and ensure the supply of individual heating boilers", said Evgeny Grigoryev, summing up the tricky situation.

Post the city-wide confab, the Department of Architecture and Town Planning of Yakutsk City Administration was instructed to mull over the technical conditions issued by AO "Vodokanal" for cold water supply, particularly flagging the need for a "satellite" or heating cable.

"Today, our mission is to stop networks from freezing in such houses. So, all managing companies have been tasked with ensuring the flow and circulation of cold water supply where there's no satellite," noted the city head.

Evgeny Grigoryev then presided over an emergency city meeting, where funds were greenlighted from the reserve fund to keep several additional steam units running in various parts of Yakutsk city.

From December 28, 2024, to January 8, 2025, all operational services in Yakutsk have been put on high alert. Residents are advised to dial the Emergency Dispatch Service number, 44-45-64, in case of any unplanned emergencies. You can also reach out to the territorial management organs.

The call will be picked up, and your request will be promptly routed to the appropriate service for resolution.
