Terror Suspect's Case Taken Over by Brandenburg Public Prosecutor's Office

With a week since the arrest of a 16-year-old terror suspect in Wittstock, the regional public prosecutor's office in Brandenburg has now taken over the case. A spokesperson from the Landsgericht (Superior Judicial Authority) based in Brandenburg an der Havel confirmed the shift in jurisdiction on Tuesday. Until now, local investigations were handled by the Neuruppin public prosecutor's office.

The Central Office for Combating Hate Crime, which operates under the Public Prosecutor General's Office, will now manage the proceedings due to the case's superseding geographical significance.

The young suspect was apprehended last Tuesday in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district's Wittstock/Dosse town. According to rumors from security forces, he and a teenager from North Rhine-Westphalia had jointly planned an attack on a Christmas market via the internet. The suspect was remanded in custody.

Other legal proceedings involving the Wittstock suspect are already underway for criminal offenses.

According to Düsseldorf's public prosecutor's office, the two youths are reported to have agreed on killing Christmas market visitors in Leverkusen. Allegedly, they adopted the objectives and techniques of the Islamic State (IS) when planning their attack.
