Living Life According to Those Invisible Nudges

Life sometimes whispers its secrets in subtle ways, setting us up to follow a path that's ours alone. These intuitive hints, often veiled in mystery, are purposefully scattered like breadcrumbs on a cosmic treasure hunt.

In some ancient beliefs, like Buddhism and Chinese mythology, this journey begins with a forgetting, a crossing of the "River of Forgetfulness." Here, we lose our memory of past lives, the mission we were bound to fulfill, and even the memories of the in-between places. The Dragon Lady Meng Po, in Chinese folklore, prepares the Tea of Forgetfulness, ensuring we start fresh, but also causing us to forget our life's purposes.

The British statesman Winston Churchill seemed to receive his life's purpose clearly - as a boy, he proclaimed to a friend that he'd one day save the British Empire. Most of us don't get such clear visions, yet we sense our calling, feel the pull of certain interests, activities, and people that bring us joy. These nudges are the clues meant for us, guiding us back to ourselves, our purpose.

Many of the insights we call science can be seen as models, simplified representations of how the universe works. Now and then, these models hint that clues come from the pre-conscious, from before we were born, the place in-between life and death. In their works, Dr. Michael Newton and Dr. Brian Weiss describe how their patients reported being shown "clues" or "triggers" to recognize the people they were meant to be with and paths they were meant to follow.

Others view these nudges as messages from spiritual guides or guardian angels, or as part of a larger divine plan. In many cultures, there are formal terms for seeking guidance, like Islamic Istikhara. Regardless of your perspective, what's essential is to remain open-minded about where these personal clues might come from and which model resonates most with you.
