PSOE's López Slams PP Immigration Plan, Confident in Budget Negotiations
Patxi López, the Socialist Party's (PSOE) spokesperson in Congress, has slammed the People's Party (PP) for their immigration strategy and speech at the UN. He expressed confidence in passing the Budgets through negotiation despite the Government's track record.
López accused the PP of mimicking far-right ideologies, describing their immigration proposal as 'inhuman'. He also disagreed with Isabel Díaz Ayuso's assessment of the King's speech at the UN. López went on to label the PP's immigration strategy as 'unconstitutional and contrary to international law'. The strategy, presented by Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska over the weekend in Murcia, is set to be a contentious issue.
The Government, led by Pedro Sánchez, has not passed the public accounts with its investiture partners for three consecutive years. Despite this, López remains optimistic about the prospects of passing the Budgets through negotiation. The deadline for presenting the General State Budgets is fast approaching, with Tuesday being the final day.
López's criticism of the PP's immigration strategy and Ayuso's UN remarks sets the stage for a heated debate. With the Budget deadline looming, López's confidence in negotiation may be put to the test, given the Government's past struggles in passing the public accounts.
