Warren Zaire-Emery, the 17-year-old midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), suffered a serious ankle sprain during his debut match for the French national team in the Euro qualifiers against Gibraltar, an event that marked a significant setback for both the club and the young player.

The injury occurred early in 2025 during PSG's 4-1 Champions League win over Stuttgart. Initially, it was estimated that Zaire-Emery would be out for about three weeks from late January 2025. However, further updates indicated that the injury was more severe than anticipated, causing him to miss the rest of 2023.

Zaire-Emery's absence from the field has left a notable gap in PSG's midfield options, disrupting the team's plans for the latter portion of 2023. Despite the setbacks, the young midfielder had made notable contributions earlier in the season, including scoring a long-range goal against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage and making significant contributions in midfield.

Before his performance slump in the second half of 2023, Zaire-Emery had also managed to score 2 goals for PSG and provide 5 assists in the current season. His injury and subsequent absence have likely reduced PSG's midfield options and disrupted their plans for the remainder of the season.

L'Equipe reports that Zaire-Emery is expected to return to his club today, offering a glimmer of hope for PSG fans. However, it is not expected that he will play again in the calendar year 2023 due to his injury. This means he may miss Ligue 1 matches against Monaco, Le Havre, Nantes, Lille, and Metz, as well as Champions League matches against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund.

Preliminary examinations suggest that Zaire-Emery has avoided a more serious injury, such as a ligament tear. Nevertheless, the prolonged period of recovery and rehabilitation ahead of him will be challenging. As a promising young talent, the recovery and return to form of Warren Zaire-Emery will undoubtedly be closely watched by football fans around the world.
