Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made a significant move in their goalkeeping department, as Gianluigi Donnarumma has been omitted from their UEFA Super Cup squad due to a contract standoff. The Italian goalkeeper, who has been with the club since 2021, is expected to depart this summer following the signing of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

Donnarumma, a key figure in PSG's recent successes, has expressed his disappointment over the situation. He has won seven major trophies with the European champions, including the 2020 UEFA Champions League, and played a starring role in the latter stages of last season's competition. His performances earned him a place in Italy's squad that triumphed at Euro 2020.

The club, however, has taken a firm stance, with manager Luis Enrique leaving PSG and not including Donnarumma in his squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham. PSG's captain, Marquinhos, who has been with the club since 2013, has supported the decision, stating that all players can do is give their all until the last minute while they're at the club.

Despite the circumstances, Donnarumma has shown class and grace, expressing his desire to say goodbye to the PSG fans. His support and affection for the supporters mean the world to him, and he has made 161 appearances for the club since signing from AC Milan.

The news of Donnarumma's imminent departure has come as a shock to many, especially given his impressive performances. He is undoubtedly one of the best players in his position, and there is reported interest from Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Italian giants Inter Milan.

As PSG's Ligue 1 title defence begins this weekend against Nantes, the club will be looking to move forward with Chevalier in goal. Donnarumma, on the other hand, will be seeking a new challenge, having given everything to earn his place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.

Marquinhos, who has seen other important players forced to leave at the end of the transfer window, admitted it was hard to see Donnarumma pushed towards the exit door. Nevertheless, he encouraged the fans to continue supporting the team, reminding them that every player gives their all for the club until the very last minute.

In the end, the departure of Donnarumma marks a turning point in PSG's history. His contributions to the club will not be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of the fans. As the club moves forward, they will undoubtedly be looking to build on the successes achieved during Donnarumma's tenure.
