PSG's coach, Luis Enrique, seeks a goalkeeper with distinct characteristics compared to Donnarumma.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has confirmed his intention to leave the club following his exclusion from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. This decision by coach Luis Enrique signals a shift towards Lucas Chevalier, who was signed from Lille for over €40 million, as the new first-choice goalkeeper.

Donnarumma, who has made 161 appearances for PSG since joining from AC Milan in 2021, expressed his disappointment on Instagram, stating that he had given everything to the club but was told he could no longer be part of the group or contribute to PSG’s success.

Luis Enrique took responsibility for the decision, citing a different profile of goalkeeper he wants for the team, despite acknowledging Donnarumma as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The two sides did not reach an agreement on a contract extension, with Donnarumma having one year left on his contract running until summer 2026.

Rumors link Donnarumma with a potential move to Manchester City, although no official confirmation has yet been made. Donnarumma has won a total of seven major trophies, including the UEFA Super Cup and the Champions League with PSG, and played a significant role in Italy's Euro 2020 triumph and the latter stages of last season's Champions League, helping PSG win the trophy for the first time.

Luis Enrique spoke highly of Donnarumma, calling him one of the best players in his position and an even better person. Teammate Marquinhos, who has been with PSG since 2013, admitted it was hard to see Donnarumma potentially being pushed towards the exit door. Marquinhos stated that all players can only give their all until the last minute while they are at the club.

PSG's Ligue 1 title defense begins with a trip to Nantes on Sunday. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Donnarumma's departure, the club remains focused on maintaining its position at the top of French football.

Despite his nearly three years with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Gianluigi Donnarumma might transition from soccer (football) at the club following his removal from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. Donnarumma, who was one of the best goalkeepers in the world and contributed immensely to PSG's success during his time, has shown a keen interest in sports like soccer (football), possibly hinting at a future in another football club, with Manchester City being rumored as a potential destination.
