PSG set to secure the signing of Lille's goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, according to reports
In the world of football, speculation is rife about the future of Gianluigi Donnarumma at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Italian goalkeeper, who was named the world's best goalkeeper by the CIES Football Observatory in April, is expected to leave the club following the signing of a replacement, Lucas Chevalier, and ongoing contract disputes.
PSG's pursuit of Donnarumma's replacement, Mike Maignan, from Lille, could potentially relegate the Italian to the role of back-up goalkeeper. Maignan, a 23-year-old Frenchman, is set to sign a five-year contract with a fee of approximately 40 million euros ($46.5 million).
Maignan's exceptional performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season earned him a nomination for the Yashin Trophy. His foot skills may also align better with the playing style of PSG's coach, Luis Enrique.
Meanwhile, Donnarumma had outstanding performances as PSG won the Champions League for the first time in their history last term. However, his current contract with PSG is set to expire, and Premier League clubs are reportedly keen on securing his services.
Manchester United appears to be the likely destination for Donnarumma, as Cameroon's Andre Onana has failed to impress since replacing David de Gea at Old Trafford two seasons ago. Both Manchester clubs and Chelsea, along with Manchester City, have shown interest in Donnarumma. There are reports that Donnarumma has already agreed terms with Manchester City and spoken to Pep Guardiola, but there have been no confirmed negotiations yet.
Apart from English clubs, Inter Milan is also reportedly interested, and Donnarumma remains open to a return to Italy. However, PSG does not want to retain him under the current circumstances and has taken steps such as excluding him from travel and training sessions to pressure a transfer.
